Pharmacy counter cases
A patient walks into the pharmacy and stops at the counter. They describe what is wrong, ask for a product or hand over a prescription. It is up to you to listen, ask the right questions, then advise, dispense or refer.
Just like a pharmacy counter
The patient does not arrive with a diagnosis: they arrive with a complaint, a worry or a prescription. The case turns on what you ask them.
-
The request
The patient speaks in their own words: a cough that lingers, a feverish child, a product seen elsewhere. They do not tell everything at once.
-
The right questions
Who it is for, since when, which current treatments, which warning signs: what you do not ask, you will not know.
-
The prescription
Some patients hand over a handwritten prescription, to read as at the counter, with its doses and durations.
-
The advice
You advise, dispense or refer to a doctor. The debrief reviews your advice from what you said to the patient.
One counter, three countries
Every pharmacy case takes place in one country: Morocco, France or Italy. The brand names the patient mentions and what the pharmacist may do at the counter follow that country, to train the reflexes of the pharmacy where you will practise.
Your questions about counter cases
Who are the counter cases for?
Pharmacy students, and any health student who wants to practise giving advice: the counter cases are open to every Simunara learner.
How is my advice assessed?
From what you said to the patient during the case. The debrief lists the expected advice and shows which you gave.
